IMD has predicted the probability of a Cyclonic Storm in the Arabian sea. Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rainfall is also predicted in the days from 5th October to 7th October.
Public Alert
1. Do not travel to hilly areas between 7 pm and 7 am
2. Do not stop by small rapids and water channels in hilly areas for site seeing.
3. Avoid tourism to hilly areas and beaches. Do not go to Idukki for witnessing the Neelakurinji bloom
4. Do not spread rumour. Follow this page and the page of Chief Minister’s Office for authentic information
5. Do not cross the river
6. Avoid Selfis by standing on bridges and along the river banks
7. Avoid bathing, swimming, washing and playing in the river. Give special care to children and prevent them from playing in storm water, rivers and sea.
8. Prepare an emergency kit with the following items
– Torch
– Radio
– 500 ml water
– one packet of ORS
– Necessary medicine
– Antiseptic Ointment
– One small bottle detol, savlon etc
– 100 grms of Groundnuts
– 100 grms of dried grapes or dates
– a knife
– 10 chlorine tablets for purifying water
– one battery bank or necessary batteries to power the torch
– fully charged simple feature mobile phone with call balance
– Necessary money
9. Ensure that all certificates and valuable jewellery are packed in plastic containers or bags and stored at a height
10. Communicate all information that you receive from official sources to everyone in the house. If you are not in the house, the family should be advised to listen to official directives and move to safe locations without waiting for you.
11. Follow the following radio stations of All India Radio and Dooradashan
12. If necessary, you may move to the nearest relief camps. Instructions have been issued to Districts for opening relief camps from 5th October onwards.
13. In order to avoid electrocution, switch off the electrical main switch if flood waters enter your building
14. Emergency Numbers of DEOCs is 1077; if calling from outside the district, please add the STD Code
15. Keep the mobile numbers of your local panchayath or Local Self Government People’s Representative
16. Give special care to old aged, bed ridden, people with illness, people with different abilities and children. If there are those with illness, bed ridden or people with different abilities in your house who needs special attention to evacuate, please inform the nearest officer of Social Justice Department.
17. Keep all electric and electronic gadgets at a height to avoid inundation
18. Animals can swim. So if you cannot secure your animal in times of floods, please let them loose. They will swim to safety.
19. Park vehicles in a height such that they are not marooned.
20. Those living in flats shall ensure that their cars are not parked in low lying cellars.
21. Only those who are trained in relief, response and rescue, when requested by District Administration, shall proceed to flood affected areas. Do not attempt to visit flood affected areas as tourists.
