The Deep Depression over Southeast Arabian Sea moved nearly westwards with a speed of 20 kmph and lay centered at 1130 hrs IST of today, the 17th November, 2018 over Southeast Arabian Sea near latitude 09.8°N and longitude 73.2°E, about 50 km west-southwest of Kalpeni, 110 km south-southeast of Kavaratti and 150 km south-southeast of Agatti. It is likely to intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm during next 12 hours and very likely to move nearly westwards across Lakshadweep Islands during next 24 hours.
Warnings:
(i) Heavy rainfall warnings:
- Rainfall at most places and heavy to very heavy falls with extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Lakshadweep during next 24 hours and heavy falls at isolated places during subsequent 24 hours.
(ii)Wind warning:
- Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is prevailing over Southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep Area. It is very likely to gradually increase becoming gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph during next 24 hours.
- Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely along & off Kerala coast during next 24 hours.
(iii) Sea condition
- Sea condition will be rough to very rough during next 12 hours and is likely to be high during subsequent 48 hours over southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area.

(iv) Storm Surge Warning
Storm surge of height of about 0.5 meter above astronomical tide is very likely to inundate low lying areas of Lakshadweep Islands (Androth, Amini, Agatti, Cherium, Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Bangaram, Suheli Islands) at the time of landfall.
(v) Damage Expected over Lakshadweep Islands (Androth, Amini, Agatti, Cherium, Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Bangaram, Suheli Islands):
It is likely to cause damage to thatched huts, minor damage to power & communication lines due to breaking of tree branches, damage to Kutcha roads and some damage to paddy crops, banana, papaya trees & orchards during next 24 hours.
(vi) Action Suggested:
- Total suspension of fishing operations over southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep Area and along & off Kerala coast during next 24 hours.
- The fishermen are advised not to venture into southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep Area and along & off Kerala coast during next 72 hours.
- People in the affected areas to remain indoors during next six hours.
